Training for ESD team members

CODEP organised a 5 day workshop with the aim to provide support to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences (MECS) and the ESD Team in developing guidelines and recommendations on integration of ESD into the 12-year education curriculum. The workshop was backstopped by an International consultant invited by MECS.

The main features of the seminar were the introduction of the process of integration of ESD concept into specific subjects and the elaboration and publication of guidelines containing methodological advises on ESD, which can be used for stepwise in-service teacher trainings.

 

The participants besides noticing the importance of the workshop were pointing out the need to organize special trainings aimed at strengthening existing capacities basing on country specifics and available resources.

In the future the MECS will work on the development of the recommendations on integrating the ESD into general education curriculum and monitoring indicators on the implementation of the ESD curriculum.

 

Component 3 of CODEP aims at raising environmental awareness and knowledge about desertification among Mongolia's youth as well as the general public and intends to initiate behaviour change.

Within Component 3 the first output is to support integration of ESD into primary and secondary education in Mongolia within the framework of updating national curricula in connection with transition to 12 year schooling system as well as supporting the Government of Mongolia efforts to implement the UN Decade for ESD (2004-2014). The main partner of Component 3 is Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MECS) responsible for national curricula, its revision and evaluation. MECS has established an ESD team to implement a plan of ESD integration in primary and secondary education during 2008-2015.
