One of the outcomes of the Component 3 deals with the integration of Education ofr Sustainable devleopment (ESD) concept into school curricula. In this relation CODEP works towards building capacity of the ESD Team which is in charge of cooperating with other teams which update the general education curriculum in connection with transition to 12-year system and in the context of the UNESCO Decade for ESD. The teams were given trainings on the methodology to integrate ESD concept into school curricula. An ESD team has produced so far two manuals on how to integrate the ESD concept into the curriculum for 1st and 2nd grade teachers. The main purpose of the manuals is to assist teachers and recommend them on the methodology to integrate the concept of ESD into respective subject. Within 2 009, manual for primary school (grades 3-5) teachers will be produced and competitions on ESD among teachers and students organizations are to be announced. In the future, CODEP will continue its support based on the needs of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences (MECS) in integrating ESD. Another part of ESD related activities is supporting development of the ESD modules within teacher training curriculum and furthermore, planning training for trainers and methodologists in how to use these modules. Here, CODEP collaborates with GTZ-funded Environmental Communication and Ecological Education project. In 2009, nationwide training was organized for methodologists in how to use the ESD manual for 1st grade teachers. CODEP in cooperation with WWF Mongolia supports a quarterly bulletin on ESD. The target readers will be teachers and school management as well as parents and students to become teachers. The bulletin will keep the teachers updated on ESD global and national trends and will provide ready-to-use methodological references.
